MGW #4: 5 x Feelgood – Dance is not a uniform concept

Feel good

This post is also available in: Nederlands (Dutch)

This time, I'll attempt to show that dance music is not a uniform concept. Indeed, it revolves around a four-four beat, much like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart used in their compositions. However, contemporary composers have an inexhaustible array of sounds at their disposal, whereas the music makers of the past were confined to a defined set of physical instruments with a vast yet ultimately 'limited' range of possibilities. You can only extract so many sounds from a violin - it has its limits. Therefore, I confidently assert that dance can be art. In this edition, we aim for the pleasant, warm, feelgood energy. Enjoy!

Producers work tirelessly, resulting in thousands of tracks being released daily. How do you stand out? At the same time, for DJs seeking good tracks, it’s nearly overwhelming: how do you find those gems, the keepers, the high-quality tracks among the thousands of releases? It could almost become a full-time job. I try to guide the way through the musical jungle of both now and then. Each edition, I highlight 5 tracks, almost always related to dance music, but the occasional trip down memory lane is not ruled out.

Donna Summer – I Feel Love (Danny Howells Remix) (2003)

Dave Angel – 1st Symphony (1993)

Fathers of Sound – Revelation (1993)

Prince of Denmark – Soulfood (2010)

Robert Owens – I’ll Be Your Friend (Original Def Mix) (1991)
